Mini-Movies Info

1. Movies are delivered in ZIP files. They are not streaming media, and cannot be viewed while downloading. Download the file completely, unzip with your ZIP utility, then open with Windows Media Player or another media player.

2. Mini-Movies Are in AVI format, encoded with the DivX :-) codec. You must have this codec installed on your system to view the movie. 

   Windows Users: You can download the 3.11 Alpha version of the DivX codec HERE. Download the codec zip file, unzip to a new folder, and run the Register_DivX.exe file to install the codec. You may also use the new DivX 5.x codec.

   Mac Users: You have two solutions to choose from. You can install the DivX codec bundle for Macs, which uses your QuickTime player. There is a free version and a "pro" version; the free one will work fine. You can get it HERE. That package will execute our newer videos, which use the MP3 audio codec. Use the bundled "validator" before trying to play the video.

If you have OS X you may also wish to try Mplayer, another player that may work better with older hardware. It will even play the audio on our older videos, which the DivX Mac player will not. You can get Mplayer HERE, or from their web site HERE.

If you have OS 9 or earlier, you might try DivX Doctor before playing the vids. You can get that HERE. For the older videos which use the DivX audio codec, you may have problems with audio unless you still have Windows Media Player 6.3 for Mac. The video will work, though.

   Linux Users: Two choices -- DivX bundle for Linux HERE or Mplayer for Linux HERE.

3.  Each movie is available in two versions, large and small. The large version is ultra-high quality (576x384 or 720x480 frame, 29.97 frames/second, with 44.1 KHz Stereo sound track). File sizes for large movies run approx. 8 to 16 MB/minute. We STRONGLY recommend that you not attempt to download these files unless you have a broadband (256Kbps or better) connection!

The small version is very good quality (336x224 pixel frame, 29.97 frames/sec, with a 22.5KHz mono soundtrack). These file sizes run approx. 3 - 4 MB/minute.
